ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The election to elect the Chief Minister of Punjab will be held on July 22, 2022, the Supreme Court of Pakistan announced on Friday.

The three-member bench of the Apex Court headed by the Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial and comprising Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail announced the decision after hearing a petition filed against the June 30 verdict of the Lahore High Court (LHC).

As per the decision, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hamza Shahbaz will continue to stay as the Chief Minister of Punjab till then.

The decision was agreed upon by both Hamza Sharif and the Speaker Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi.

Both of them also appeared before the Court via video link at the Supreme Court Registry in Lahore.

When asked by media that how he sees the Supreme Court’s verdict, Pervaiz Elahi replied that it’s a very good decision and in accordance with the law.
