HeadlinesFamily of Shahzeb pardoned all accused convicted in Shahzeb murder case

KARACHI: The family of Shahzeb, the teenager son of a police officer murdered in Karachi’s posh area last year, has forgiven all four accused in the case who have been awarded life death sentence by Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in June this year.

Sources said that heirs of Shahzeb have submitted to Sindh High Court an application for agreement with the accused, stating that both the parties have reached an out-of-court settlement under which the culprits have been pardoned ‘fee sabeel Allah’ (in/for Allah’s cause/way).

The victim’s family claimed that they have received no blood-money.

In June this year, an anti-terrorism court had awarded life imprisonment to Shahrukh Jatoi, the central accused in Shahzeb murder case, and his accomplice Siraj Talpur.

Shahzeb, the only son of DSP Orangzeb, was shot dead in December last year in Defence area of Karachi over a petty dispute.

Youths and the civil society took to streets in Karachi to spotlight the murder, prompting the Supreme Court of Pakistan to take a suo moto notice 10 days after the murder.

After several hearings of the case in Supreme Court and ATC in Karachi, the ATC finally delivered its verdict on Friday six months after the cold-bloobed murder.

The court had also awarded death penalty to Siraj Talpur, another prime accused in the case, and life imprisonment to Sajjad Talpur and Murtaza Lashari who were also accused in the murder.

All the four accused were also fined Rs0.5 million each. –
