NEW DELHI, India: The protesting farmers on Saturday blocked roads and highways across India as part of a new attempt under the ‘Chakka Jam’ to pressurize the New Delhi regime to repeal the controversial agriculture laws.

The farmers blocked the highway in Palwal, a district in Indian northern Haryana State.

The Indian farmers are holding a three-hour “Chakka Jam (Road Blockade)” from 12:00 pm to 03:00 pm IST on Saturday across the Country except in New Delhi and a couple of neighboring States.

Meanwhile, the Delhi and Haryana Police have beefed up the security amid the farmers’ Chakka Jam to ensure the peaceful environment

The Delhi Police has erected multi-layer barricades to stop the movement of vehicles at the Ghazipur border of the Capital while the entry and exit gates of 10 Metro Stations in Delhi have been closed.

In a Twitter statement, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights called on Indian authorities and protesting farmers to exercise “maximum restraint”.

The United Nations Human Rights Office said that the rights to peaceful assembly and expression should be protected both offline & online.
