ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Special Assistant to Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi on Wednesday sought the support of Belarus for Pakistan’s membership for Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG).
The SAPM who is currently on an official visit to Belarus as Special Envoy of the Prime Minister called on the Foreign Minister of Belarus Vladimir Makei and Deputy Foreign Minister Valentin Rybakov, a statement from the Foreign Office said.
The two sides also discussed bilateral matters.
The special assistant emphasized the need for equal treatment of the applications of Pakistan and India, based on objective and non-discriminatory criteria for membership.
Tariq Fatemi reiterated that Pakistan’s application to participate in the NSG stood on solid grounds of technical experience, capability and well-established commitment to nuclear safety and security.
The Special Assistant assured his interlocutors that Pakistan’s export controls were fully harmonized with those of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG), Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) and Australia Group.
The Foreign Minister of Belarus also hosted a lunch in the honor of the special assistant.
