The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday rejected the Election Tribunal’s decision which had barred the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Central Information Secretary Fawad Chaudhry to contest the forthcoming polls, allowing him to go ahead for NA-67 Jhelum-II.

In response to a petition filed by Pakistan Justice and Democratic Party’s (PJDP) Candidate Fakhar Abbasi Kazmi against Fawad Chaudhry, the appellant tribunal chaired by Justice Ibadul Rehman Lodhi of the LHC had rejected nomination papers of the PTI Spokesman on Wednesday.

Eventually Fawad Chaudhry challenged the decision of the tribunal in the LHC, arguing that the decision contradicted the Constitution and the law.

The PTI Central Information Secretary asked the LHC to declare the appellant tribunal’s decision null and void.

The LHC’s two-member bench accepted Fawad Chaudhry’s appeal and turned down appellant tribunal’s decision.

In a twitter message, Fawad Chaudhry expressed pleasure over the suspension of his disqualification order, and declared it a triumph of Jhelum people.

Fawad Chaudhry also expressed gratitude to the lawyer community especially the officials of Lahore High Court Bar, Pakistan Bar Council and Punjab Bar for their support.
