Federal govt to decide about Musharraf leaving country or not: Special court

ISLAMABAD: The special court formed to try former military ruler General (retd) Pervez Musharraf for high treason on Monday disposed off his plea to travel abroad and said that the federal government can allow him to leave the country as the court doesn’t have the jurisdiction to take the decision in this regard.

The court further declared that it doesn’t have the jurisdiction to put or remove names from the Exit Control List (ECL). It said that the federal government can put and review its ECL list.

It said that the former president is not under arrest nor the court can bar his movement.

Moreover, the special court said that the former president can get permanent exemption from appearance in the court if he gives solid reasons during next hearing of the treason case.

Later the court adjourned the hearing of the case till April 15.

Earlier in the day, a three-member bench headed by Justice Faisal Arab and comprising Justice Tahira Safdar and Justice Yawar Ali indicted Musharraf for high treasons, while the former president pleaded not guilty of the charges.

During the hearing, Musharraf’s counsel Farogh Naseem submitted two separate petitions seeking permission for his client to go abroad for treatment as well as to see his ailing mother.
