ISLAMABAD: The federal government is preparing a five year plan and Vision 20-25 to put the country on the path of sustainable development, Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal told a news conference along with Malaysian Minister Dato Sri Idris Jala in Islamabad on Wednesday.
“We want to learn lesson from the success stories of Malaysia and other friendly countries to make these plans implementable and successful,” Ahsan said.
Ahsan said both Pakistan and Malaysia have agreed to continue engagements and cooperation in order to reform and improve the service delivery of public sector. He regretted that no proper planning was done during the last fourteen years for energy sector.
However‚ he expressed the confident that with the emergence of political stability‚ the country can now fully exploit its true potential.
The minister said the government wants to modernize the civil structure with the aim to improve the service delivery. In this regard‚ we are launching reforms and innovation program in government. A revolving fund of four hundred million rupees will be established‚ encouraging the bureaucracy to try new solutions.
Responding to a question‚ Ahsan said the goverment will fulfill its manifesto of transforming Pakistan International Airlines and Pakistan Railways into profitable entity and provide better air and road travelling facilities to the commuters. He said the management of Pakistan International Airlines has been directed to furnish a workable plan for restructuring of the national flag carrier. He pointed out that a subsidy of three billion rupees is being given to PIA on monthly basis and the prime minister has made it clear that no more bailout package will be given to it.
Speaking on the occasion‚ Malaysian Minister Dato Sri Idris Jala said Pakistan is blessed with natural and human resources and has rich cultural heritage. He said the country has all the potential to transform into a prosperous and developed country. He said the country has good development plans and it can ensure their implementation by ensuring political stability.
