PESHAWAR, Pakistan: At least 30 terrorists were killed when Pakistan military fighter jets pounded their hideouts in the volatile North Waziristan tribal region on Friday.

The security sources said that the fresh aerial strikes were conducted in Shawal area of North Waziristan. They said that several hideouts of terrorist were also destroyed in air strikes.

The air strikes in the tribal region are part of the ongoing massive military operation Zarb-e-Azb. The operation was launched in June 2014 following the cancellation of peace dialogue process with the terror outfit Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

The military has claimed to have cleared 90 percent area of North Waziristan of terrorists.

Talking to tribal leaders in Balochistan on January 1, the army chief General Raheel said that he was fully confident that 2016 would be year of elimination of terrorism.

“This will also be year of national solidarity,” General Raheel was quoted as saying by the military media wing, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Later on January 6, while addressing the Corps Commander Conference in Rawalpindi, the army chief reiterated Zero tolerance for terrorist organizations, and also expressed his complete satisfaction over progress of Zarb-e-Azb and operational preparedness of the Army.
