RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: Private fish forms spreaded across the Punjab province on around 60,000 acres have been producing over 92,000 metric tons annually, it was learnt officially on Thursday.

The Fisheries Department in the province through 47 big and small hatcheries has been providing fish seed to the private sector fish farms, the sources said.

However, due to limited water resources, the department like other countries is planning to adopt intensive culture system to obtain maximum fish production from minimum water, sources added.

According to the method, they said, the farmers by including more oxygen through artificial methods in water in control conditioners, can get maximum production.

Following concerted efforts of the department, a number of hatcheries have come into existence in private sector with following artificial methods for utilization of comparatively lesser water.

The sources said that concerted efforts are in hand to establish export processing zone in South Punjab through public private partnership.

Fisheries Department besides providing fish seed has also been providing information, education and instructions to the fish farmers about this method.

Proposal is also under consideration for giving honorarium to the participants of courses of aquarium making and production of ornamental fish and fish farming and approval is also being sought from the competent authorities, the sources added.
