PESHAWAR: At least seven persons were killed and 25 others including policemen, women and children injured when an explosion took place near a police station in the Sarband area of Peshawar on Friday, rescue sources said.
The sources said the blast took place in Battatal bazaar of Sarband area, adding the dead and injured were shifted to Hayatabad Medical Complex and Lady Reading Hospital where an emergency was imposed.
Faisal, the superintendent of police (city), said that a suicide bomber targeted a police vehicle in Battatal bazaar. He said that police personnel received minor injuries in the blast.
The AIG of the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) Shafqat Malik said that at least eight kilograms of explosives were used in the blast.
The security personnel reached the blast site and cordoned off the area as a probe into the incident went underway.
