RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: The Punjab government has organized a three-day Seminar on the “Socio-Economic Empowerment of Dukhtaraan-e-Pakistan: Vision of Government of Pakistan 2020” at Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) in Rawalpindi.
On the second day of the Seminar being held from February 17 to 19, the Regional Police Officer (RPO) Sohail Habib Tajik as the Guest of Honor expressed his views about the gender gap and women’s involvement in Pakistani society.
The RPO said that women’s financial empowerment is crucial for closing the gender gap. Gender equality is a prerequisite for building an inclusive, progressive, peaceful society. The gender parity at educational, economic, political and representative fronts makes prosperity and change inevitable. In addition, the state should strive to eliminate all forms of discrimination and violence against women. Most importantly, the government should work round the clock to empower women through education so that they can be an active economic source in the realm of socio-political development of Pakistan.
The Chief Guest of the event was Mrs. Farah Agha (MPA), and in her address, she stressed that women can play an important role in making society a better place. Women are no lesser than men, she makes the family strong enough to work and build a society. We have to give women equal opportunities like men.
A theatrical performance on countering violence by Rafi Peer Theatre Group titled “AB NAHI” was also performed on the second day with a focus to spread awareness on violence against women and girls.
In the academic session Ms. Rabia Armaghan delivered a lecture on Marketing & Investment Skills, Mrs. Shumaila delivered a lecture on Advocacy and Social Mobilization Skills, Ms. Nousheen from Aurat Foundation talked about Conflict Resolution: Arbitration, Mediation, Mr. Ammar Jaffri talk about Means & Methods of Socio-Economic Empowerment of women, Dr. Nazir Hussain (University of Lahore) delivered a lecture on Leadership Techniques & Social Mapping.
A large number of faculty members, academics and students attended the event.
In the end, Dr. Sarwet Rasul and Professor Dr. Uzaira Rafique awarded university souvenirs to the worthy guests as a token of appreciation for gracing the occasion.
