ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: People staged forceful anti-India, pro-Pakistan and pro-freedom demonstrations in occupied Kashmir, Srinagar and other areas on Saturday.

Call for the holding of the demonstrations was given by the veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, to protest against the killing of a student, Gowhar Ahmed Dar, by Indian troops and illegal detention of Hurriyet leaders, activists and youth, KMS reported.

People took to the streets in Hyderpora, Nowhatta, Badgam, Chadoora, Sumbal, Ganderbal, Bandipore, Pulwama, Baramulla, Sopore, Kupwara, Handwara Islamabad and other areas and chanted slogans in favour of freedom and against India.

Indian troops and police personnel used excessive force at various places injuring several people.

The occupation authorities continued to place Syed Ali Gilani and Mukhtar Ahmed Waza under house arrest while Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Nayeem Ahmed Khan, Zafar Akbar Butt and Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori under illegal detention to prevent them from leading demonstrations.

Syed Ali Gilani and the Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Muhammad Yasin Malik, in their separate statements issued in Srinagar appealed to the international human rights organizations including the Amnesty International, Asia Watch and International Red Cross to take cognizance of Indian state terrorism in the territory.

The Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, addressing Juma congregation at Jamia Masjid in Srinagar deplored that occupied Kashmir had virtually been turned into a big jail where curbing of basic rights of the people had become part of the policy of the puppet regime.

He demanded immediate release of all illegally detained Kashmiris including Hurriyet leaders and activists. His address was punctuated by full-throated pro-freedom slogans.

Meanwhile, Indian troops, in their fresh act of state terrorism, martyred one Kashmiri youth during a siege and search operation at Hajinaka in Payerpati in Kupwara, today. The operation continued till reports last came in.
