ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The foreign delegates have begun arriving in Islamabad to participate in the 17th Extraordinary Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) being hosted by Pakistan on December 19, 2021.
Convened in the backdrop of the aggravating humanitarian situation in Afghanistan, the 17th Extraordinary Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers would provide an opportunity to consider practical and concrete steps to help address the humanitarian needs of the Afghan people.

To attend the OIC Conference on Afghanistan, the Foreign Ministers from the OIC Member States, representatives from the United Nations, International Financial Institutions, some International and Regional Organizations, and non-OIC Members have been invited.

The Malaysian Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah, the Bosnian Foreign Minister Dr. Bisera Turkovic, the Acting Foreign Minister of Afghanistan Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Nuryshev Shakhrat, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Kyrgyzstan Aibek Artykbaev, the Foreign Secretary of People’s Republic of Bangladesh Masud bin Momen, the Foreign Secretary of Oman Al-Sheikh Khalifa Bin Ali Al Harthi, and Germany’s Special Representative to Afghanistan and Pakistan Jasper Weick have already arrived in Islamabad to attend the OIC meeting.
The Malaysian and Bosnian foreign ministers were received by the Minister for Defense Production Zubaida Jalal at the Islamabad International Airport on Saturday morning.
Talking to the media, the two foreign ministers were appreciative of Pakistan for hosting the meeting.
The Malaysian foreign minister termed the Extraordinary Session of the OIC very important and timely.
Commending Pakistan for hosting millions of Afghan refugees and extending assistance to the Afghan people, the Malaysian foreign minister said that it is time for the whole Muslim Ummah to come together and take concrete steps for the Afghan people.
While the Bosnian foreign minister expressed the confidence that the OIC moot will jointly come up with best solutions for the Afghan people.
Earlier on Friday, the OIC Secretary-General Hissein Ibrahim Taha and the Deputy Foreign Minister of Niger Youssouf Elmouctar also reached Islamabad.
Talking to the OIC secretary general, the Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that Pakistan is ready to extend cooperation to the United Nations and other organizations willing to provide humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people.
The foreign minister said that Pakistan believes there should be no preconditions for extending humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people.
