CAIRO, Egypt: A 72-hour ceasefire in Gaza between Israel and Hamas ended on Friday while a senior Hamas official said that the Islamist group would not extend the ceasefire.
The official said that Israel did not respond to any of the Palestinian demands at the Egyptian-mediated negotiations in Cairo.
“We have one position, we refuse to extend the ceasefire, it is a final decision. Israel did not propose anything,” the official said. “It did not agree to end the blockade” of Gaza, he added.
However, the movement said that truce talks with the Israelis will continue.
Nearly 1,900 Palestinians including more than 400 children have been killed while over 9,500 others have sustained injuries in the Israeli regime’s 29 days of military attacks against the Gaza strip.
