Tearing off your skins to soothe the pain of mosquito bite
Islamabad: There is a massive campaign on social media in favour of Pakistan’s prime Intelligence Agency ISI. In both ways, it looks the nation is making mockery of its prime institution that ensures and suppose to ensure sovereignty of Pakistan.
One can find different graphics on twitter and facebook with slogans like “ ISI par Jan Bi Qurban Hai” etc etc . In response reply comes “what ISI that did not know where was OBL?” etc etc This is too unfortunate to discuss our prime institutions in hilarious, taunting and defecting ways.
ISI believes Geo Television and Jang Group of publication wish to defame it (ISI) and that was the reason the chief of the ISI was implicated and accused for getting anchorperson Hamid Mir wounded. If fears of ISI are true, then I fear this group is successful because ISI has never been at top hash tag or trend on facebook and twitter even after the murder of Saleem Shahzad because ISI honorably and skillfully refrained from responding allegations and did not talk much about it in social media or anywhere. Now it looks a brigade of friends have been asked to “Fight against media campaign against ISI” on social media.
I had a wonderful Editor way back in 1988 (friends can guess who he could be). He taught us that printing Clarification of a news item could be more damaging than publication of actual story because those could read Clarification who had missed to read actual story. ISI is very sensitive and important agency of Pakistan and must be respected and honoured by citizens of the country and I think this is time to stop fights in social media over its conduct and leveling allegations and counter allegations. Geo Group must be very happy that millions of supporter of armed forces are giving it free publicity. Now this battle has come out of streets and you can be seen posters in favour of ISI or against ISI.
