ISLAMABAD: The Geo and Jang media group has served a legal notice on the Defence Ministry, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) for defaming and maligning the group by accusing it of working on an anti-Pakistan agenda, the group said in a report on its website.

The media group has also asked all these to publicly apologise within 14 days and pay damages of Rs50 billion.

The group accused them for fuelling violence against it, pressuring cable operators to black out Geo channels, the failure of the PEMRA to get the Supreme Court order to restore Geo channels implemented.

“More than 8,000 journalists, workers and professionals attached to the group and their families are not only being harassed but also attacked and tortured across Pakistan,” the group said.

Meanwhile, the PEMRA suspended the suspended the license issued to Geo News for a period of 15 days and also imposed a penalty of Rs 10 million on a complaint filed by the defence ministry.
