GILGIT-BALTISTAN: The annual budget for Gilgit-Baltistan region for the fiscal year 2013-14 with a total outlay of 24.5 billion rupees was presented today.
Presenting the budget in Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly in Gilgit this afternoon‚ Finance Minister Muhammad Ali Akhtar said one point five billion rupees have been allocated for non-development expenditure.
He said 9590 million rupees have been earmarked for development expenditure.
The Gilgit-Baltistan finance minister said top priority has been given to power sector for which 2.14 billion rupees have been set aside. Another 975 million rupees have been allocated for transport and communication‚ 629 million rupees for education‚ more than 616 million rupees for housing and physical planning‚ and over 432 million rupees for health sector.
Our Gilgit correspondent Sher Muhammad reports the legislature unanimously passed a resolution greeting Muhammad Nawaz Sharif for assuming the office of prime minister of Pakistan. Tributes were also paid to President Asif Ali Zardari for holding free and transparent elections.
Another resolution condemned the killing of eleven tourists and one Pakistani guide at Nanga Parbat base camp.
