Girls, I think I have bad news for you all. If you are a TRESemme user, now might be the time for you to rethink your decision of using it. Wait, let me ask you a question first? Are you facing hair fall currently? If yes, do you use TRESemme regularly? Do you have any other item or product that you put on your hair that can be causing it? Depending on what you answer yourself, I have a shocking revelation to put forth. As per a recent revelation via a lawsuit filed, TRESemme Keratin Smooth Shampoo has ingredients that cause hair loss and other problems.
And you know what? Unilever has failed to mention the harmful effect of these products on its customers. What’s the lawsuit about and if it is true or not? Read on to find out!
TRESemme Shampoo Causes Hair Loss
A case has been filed by the US Citizen Emily Castillo against Unilever that it has misrepresented the use of TRESemme Keratin Smooth Shampoo as safe for its customers. According to her, the hair products by the brand all contain harmful ingredients that can cause hair loss and scalp irritation.
As per the plaintiff, she purchased the shampoo thinking that it will help her with her hair as the products used phrases like ‘deeply nourish’, ‘gently cleanse’, and ‘repair hair’ to advertise it. She further claimed that instead of helping her with what’s mentioned, the products lead to a massive amount of hair loss and scalp irritation.
What’s Causing The Hair Damage?
As per the class action lawsuit against Unilever for TRESemme;
“These adverse experiences can be linked to one concerning ingredient — DMDM hydantoin. DMDM hydantoin is reportedly used in Unilever products as a preservative and has been for more than a decade.
“For the decade Unilever has used DMDM hydantoin in its products, the company has allegedly been aware of the scalp irritation and hair loss it can lead to when used as a preservative in hair products.”
It continues:
“Despite having public knowledge since at least 2012 that DMDM hydantoin, as a formaldehyde donor, can cause or contribute to hair loss and scalp irritation, Unilever continued to proudly include this ingredient as a preservative in its products, and even goes so far as to represent to the public that DMDM hydantoin is safe for use in its hair care products.”
Previously, Unilever faced a legal action worth $10.2 million for a settlement against its Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion products. So, it isn’t kind of hard to believe that this can happen again.
What Do Other Customers Say?
It isn’t just Castillo, but customers around the USA have started supporting her after the claim was made. Various professionals have come up with chemical explanations and repercussions of the damages that the said ingredient has is and must be causing the current users.
Not just in the USA, but the debate has sparked all around the world (wherever Unilever products are used). The women around Pakistan have been sharing the news and agreeing to how it has damaged their hair. I, for one, can agree to it as well. Two years back, I bought a TRESemme shampoo after knowing that it was well-known. It allegedly led to the worst hair fall of my life. Now, I won’t claim that it was the solid reason, but I only got to know about the worst effects when I read a Facebook group thread of a woman sharing her story of how she used the worst hair fall ever after the use of TRESemme. This whirred the wheels of my brain and I stopped using it. You won’t believe, my hair fall miraculously vanished.
Unilever has yet to respond to the allegation and comment on the case that has been filed. Till then, do let us know if you are a TRESemme user and had to struggle with hair damage after its usage or not?
