ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Global Fund signed an agreement on Wednesday with Pakistan to provide financial assistance of US $255 million to fight diseases of AIDS, Tuberculosis (TB) and Malaria in the country.

The agreement was signed by Tariq Bajwa, Secretary Economic Affairs Division (EAD) and Urban Weber, a representative of the Global Fund whereas it was witnessed by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and Country Director, UNAID for Pakistan and Afghanistan, Mamadou Sakho.

Ishaq Dar on the occasion appreciated the Global Fund for its continued support and assistance for Pakistan in health sector.

“The frame agreement will greatly help us in eradicating the lethal diseases of AIDs, TB and Malaria”, the Finance Minister added.

He said transparency was the hallmark of current government and this assistance would be used in free, fair and transparent manner.

He said the federal government was working for the promotion of health sector and the provinces should also allocate the required funds in this sector.

The Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria is an international financing organization which aims to attract and disburse additional resources to prevent and treat HIV and AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.
