Govt, Taliban committees meet at secret location

ISLAMABAD: The meeting of the government and the Taliban dialogue committees began at a secret location on Thursday to discuss preliminary points and related issues.

Earlier, a four member-committee formed by the government for talks with the Taliban comprising the premier’s advisor on national affairs Irfan Siddiqui‚ veteran journalist Rahimullah Yusufzai‚ former ambassador and expert on Afghanistan affairs Rustam Shah Mehmand and a former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) official Major (retd) Muhammad Amir held a meeting.

On the other hand, Maulana Samiul Haq, Jamiat Uleme e Islam – Sami (JUI-S) leader and a part of three-member Taliban committee, called the federal minister for interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and reportedly discussed ways to bring peace in the country.

The JUI-S leader appreciated the role played by the interior minister for promoting the dialogue process. He expressed hoped that the dialogue process would yield positive results.

The interior minister said that the government has initiated dialogue process with seriousness. He said that the entire nation including the government is praying for the success of dialogue between the two sides.
