ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Friday withdrew its notification on power tariff hike following the order of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, the Attorney General Munir Ahmad Malik said.
Earlier, the government submitted its reply to the apex court in the suo moto hearing on recent hike in power tariff.
The Joint Secretary of Power Zargham Ishaq submitted the reply which included the report dispatched by NEPRA on August 05, recommending the government to revise power tariff, the power distribution companies’ request to increase the tariff and the government’s notification of the revised tariff.
In its reply, the government said that the tariff was revised on requests received from electricity distribution companies. It said that the NEPRA is responsible to determine the power rates, adding that the authority had set different rates for each company.
The government further stated that the government has fixed the minimum rate of power tariff and subsidy is also been allowed. The tariff was not hiked for the consumers using below 200 units, it added.
