Hand grenade attack on police van in Peshawar, no casualty

PESHAWAR, Pakistan: Unknown assailants hurled a hand grenade on a police mobile van in Peshawar on Wednesday; however, fortunately no casualty took place in the incident.

The sources said that the incident took place in in Dawood Zai area of Peshawar. They added that one attacker was arrested by police.

On Tuesday evening, the security forces and police carried out a joint operation against militants in Kulachi and Darband areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Dera Ismail Khan district.

Subsequently, an exchange of fire occurred between the two sides which resulted in the deaths of five militants.

The sources said that two militants also blew themselves up as the security forces and police reached those areas to apprehend them.

Since the adoption of 20-point national action plan (NAP) to combat terrorism in the wake of December 16 Peshawar army public school terror attack, 1,223 search operations have been conducted against militants in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

During those operations, at least 234 people suspected of being involved in terrorism-related offenses have been arrested so far in the country’s northwestern province, the prime minister’s office said in its report on implementation of the NAP issued on January 23.
