ISLAMABAD: Unidentified gunmen killed Naseeruddin Haqqani, a senior leader of Haqqani Network, on the outskirts of Islamabad in Bhara Kahu area late Sunday, militant sources said on Monday.
The militant sources said the unknown gunmen riding a motorcycle opened fire at Naseeruddin when he was returning home from a mosque. His dead body has been sent to Miranshah for burial later in the evening, sources added.
Naseeruddin was the eldest son of Afghan fighter Jalaluddin Haqqani and he had been mainly involved in dialogue-related affairs of the group.
In June 2010, the UN Security Council put Naseeruddin on the sanction list of individuals who were subjected to assets freeze, travel ban and arms embargo.
According to the details provided in the sanction list, Naseeruddin had travelled to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to raise funds for the Taliban and operates from Pakistan’s North Waziristan.
