ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Minister for Education Baligh Ur Rahman on Wednesday said Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)-led federal government had raised Higher Education Commission (HEC) budget for Universities to Rs 100 billion in the last four years.

While addressing the participants in a ceremony organized in Islamabad to celebrate Quaid-e-Azam University (QAU) Ranking among top 500 Universities of the World, the minister said none of the leader of PML-N was involved in land encroachment of the University, and added now the government took concrete measures in this regard.

The minister said the government was making necessary policies to resolve the issues of drugs, terrorism, and extremism in the Universities.

Baligh stressed the need of characterization of students, and said a comprehensive policy was needed for peace in Quaid-e-Azam University. He said most of the Universities were failed to build academia-industry linkage despite heavy funding.

The education minister also congratulated the Vice Chancellor QAU, faculty and other staff for their hardwork over sealing a place among World’s top 500 Universities, and declared the University as a Flagship Institution of the Country on behalf of the federal government.

The minister said it was responsibility of the government to resolve the issues of QAU and assured for his full cooperation for the betterment of University. He while pointing out some key issues in the university, stressed the management to resolve it.

The Vice Chancellor QAU Dr Javed Ashraf and President Academic Staff Association Dr Ishtiaq also addressed the ceremony.
