HeadlinesHigher Education Comission declares dubious degrees of 77 ex-MPs as genuine

ISLAMABAD: Degrees of 77 out of 189 former parliamentarians have been proved genuine as the time allowed for the ex-legislators to get their degrees verified expired last night.

A list of dubious degrees will be forwarded to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

According to reports, 80 former parliamentarians approached the Higher Education Commission (HEC) for verification of their education documents.

Most of the former lawmakers failed to contact the HEC to have their educational certificates verified within April 5 deadline set by a three-member Supreme Courts’ bench.

Those who were cleared by the HEC include Khursheed Shah, Afrasiab Khatak, Sardar Jamal Leghari, Chaudhry Naseer Bhutta, Chaudhry Nisar Ali, Amir Muqam, Javed Hashmi, Samsam Bokhari, Mehreen Anwar Raja, Ghulam Fareed Kathia, Ghulam Bibi Bharvana, Bushra Gohar, Tariq Anees, Tahir Orangzeb, Qasim Zia and Saifuddin Khosa.

Meanwhile, degrees of Faisal Saleh Hayat, Manzoor Watto, Shumalia Rana, Sardar Sanaullah Zehri, Maulana Gul Naseeb Khan, Razzaq Afridi, Rai Mujtaba Kharal, Mehboobullah Jan, Rukhsana Bangash, Atia Anayatullah and Zafar Beg have been found to be doubtful.

HEC Chief Javed Leghari said he would dispatch the list of hitherto verified degrees to the ECP.
