ROME:Â No trace of horse DNA was found in minced beef meals, revealed in the tests carried out on Nestle beef products this week, Italian Health Ministry said on Saturday.
“There was no trace of equine DNA in the cooked and frozen minced beef that was seized from Nestle on Feb.21,” the ministry said in a statement. “The meat will therefore be returned,” it added.
Nestle, the world’s biggest food Swiss-based Company, said on Monday that it had removed two chilled pasta products, Buitoni Beef Ravioli and Beef Tortellini, from sale in Italy and Spain after finding traces of horse DNA.
Italian police on Thursday launched a large-scale seizure of affected beef products after Nestle removed the meals sold under its Buitoni brand but the Ministry said in a statement the meat would be released following the tests.
