ISLAMABAD: A three-day anti-polio drive will start on Saturday in Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to administer polio drops to the children of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) of the North Waziristan tribal region.

The sources said that besides the IDPs, 150,000 local children will also be administered polio drops.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif chaired a high level meeting in Islamabad to review relief arrangements for the IDPs of North Waziristan and directed to speed up relief efforts to facilitate the IDPs.

The prime minister said that the nation will not leave the IDPs alone in this hour of trial and tribulation.

The minister for states and frontier regions Abdul Qadir Baloch briefed the meeting about the latest situation with regard to influx of the IDPs and relief activities.

Baloch said that as many as 560,000 IDPs have been registered so far. He said that best possible arrangements have been made to facilitate the affected people.

The minister further said that round the clock electricity supply has been ensured and polio drops are also administered in camps.
