PESHAWAR, Pakistan: A roadside blast occurred in Shalarzai tehsil of Bajaur agency on Tuesday, leaving a pro-government tribal elder dead.
Three persons who were accompanying the tribal elder Malik Younus also sustained injuries when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by unknown miscreants alongside the road in Gulu Shah area of Shalarzai tehsil.
In a statement, the Assistant Political Agent of Bajaur Muhammad Ali Khar told media that the tribal elder along with three other people was going through the area in his vehicle when it was struck by the roadside IED.
Resultantly, Malik Younus lost his life while his three accomplices were injured and immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Meanwhile, the security personnel reached the blast site and cordoned off the area.
No group immediately took responsibility of the blast; however, it is likely that the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) was behind it as the militant group has been involved in numerous terror acts across the country in the past.
An investigation into the blast and a search operation in the area have been initiated.
