PESHAWAR: In order to hold peace talks with militants in Pakistan, the federal government needs to declare a ceasefire, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan said on Wednesday.
On one hand, there are talks of holding talks with the Taliban whereas on the other, war is still ongoing. How will it be possible to hold peace talks, the PTI chairman said while talking to media representatives after visiting injured persons of the Peshawar church bombing at the Lady Reading Hospital.
Khan said that the federal government should allow militants to establish a political office in Pakistan similar to the Afghan Taliban office in Qatar to hold peace talks in the absence of which negotiations will not be possible and the decade-long war against terrorism will continue.
The PTI chairman said that after the fourth all parties conference, it was decided to hold peace talks; however no solutions have come about. He stressed that the government should take negotiations seriously, adding that it should declare a ceasefire.
