Elections 2018Imran Khan allowed to contest election from NA-95 Mianwali

LAHORE, Pakistan: An Appellate Tribunal in Lahore on Monday allowed the Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan to contest the general elections 2018 from NA-95 Mianwali-I, rejecting the earlier decision of Returning Officer (RO).

The RO had rejected Imran Khan’s nomination papers for NA-95 over submitting incomplete affidavit. However, the Chairman PTI filed an appeal in the Appellate Tribunal against the RO’s decision, and whose judge Justice Faisal Zaman Khan today ruled in Imran Khan’s favour.

The RO of NA-53 Islamabad-II also rejected Imran Khan’s nomination papers, and the decision of the Appellate Tribunal in that case is yet to arrive.

Besides NA-95 Mianwali and NA-53 Islamabad, Imran Khan will also contest the general elections 2018 from NA-131 Lahore-XI, NA-243 Karachi East-II and NA-35 Bannu.

The Appellate Tribunals formed by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) continue to hear the appeals filed against acceptance or rejection of nomination papers for the national and provincial assemblies’ seats. Wednesday (June 27) is the last day for the decisions on these appeals.

The revised list of candidates will be published the following day. The candidates can withdraw their nomination papers by June 29.

The ECP will allot election symbols to the candidates on June 30 while polling for the general elections will be held on July 25.
