ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has refused to hold a meeting with US secretary of State John Kerry at the US embassy in Islamabad, the party sources said.

Kerry is scheduled to arrive in Islamabad on Wednesday evening on a three-day visit to discuss issues ranging from bilateral relations to regional situation. During his stay‚ Kerry will meet Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and hold talks with Advisor on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz.

The PTI sources said that US diplomats have contacted Khan to arrange his meeting with Kerry. But, they said, Khan has refused to meet the secretary at US embassy and has offered to meet him anywhere except the embassy.

Khan is likely to raise the issue of war on terror and concerns over drones attack in the tribal belt of the country.

During Kerry’s visit to Islamabad, the two sides are expected to discuss resumption of strategic dialogue as well as cooperation in different fields including energy.

The two sides will hold threadbare discussion on regional situation with particular reference to post 2014 situation.

Kerry would be the most senior US official to visit the country since Nawaz Sharif was sworn in as Pakistan s new prime minister after May elections.
