ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan’s demand of removing four members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is unacceptable as the local government elections are not far away.
In a press conference in Islamabad, the PML-N leader Daniyal Aziz said that Imran’s demand to remove four members of the ECP is tantamount to sabotaging the upcoming local government elections in Punjab and Sindh.
The PML-N leader said that the Election Commission has announced the schedule for the first phase of local government polls in Punjab and Sindh, therefore if any member of the ECP is removed, it will sabotage the entire election process.
On August 26, the ECP issued schedule for the first phase of local government elections in Punjab and Sindh according to which, polling in these two provinces will take place on October 31, 2015.
Daniyal Aziz said that the ruling PML-N has also decided to contest the by-elections in Lahore’s 122 and Lodhran’s NA-154 constituencies rather than taking stay orders against the verdict of election tribunals.
However, he said that the party also plans to move the Supreme Court of Pakistan to set the record straight.
