ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Minister for Climate Change Senator Sherry Rehman held a meeting with the Federal Minister for Industries and Production Division Syed Murtaza Mahmud to discuss the progress on EV transition in Pakistan and hurdles faced by the producers.

The meeting was attended by the CEO EDB and people from the automobile industry.

Sherry Rehman was apprised on the issues that are causing delays in the initiation of EV production in the Country. The major issues include registration of the vehicles, taxation challenges and development of EV charging infrastructure.

“We need to change consumer behavior by incentivizing ease of consumption. By targeting the 26 million two-wheelers annually produced in the country, we can encourage private transport sector on EV transitions. Providing incentives to public transport will be the next phase,” she said.

The attendees from the automobile industry opined that the issues at hand, especially issuance of import and clearance certificate and registration of the EVs should be dealt with on priority basis.

Sherry Rehman expressed full support and resolved to work together with the Ministry of Industries and Production to chalk out workable plan and further action.
