DHAKA: The Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Abdul Hassan Mahmood Ali said on Thursday that India would relax tourist visa norms for Bangladeshi nationals below 13 and above 65 years of age.
His statement comes at a time when the Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj is on an official visit to Bangladesh.
However, it was reported that India had stated ahead of Swaraj’s visit that there was no proposal on the table to provide visa-free travel to Bangladeshi nationals.
Meanwhile, the Indian External Affairs Minister held a meeting with the Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Dhaka.
During the meeting, Swaraj handed over a letter of the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Bangladeshi premier, inviting her to visit India.
The two sides discussed key bilateral issues including trade and investment, security, connectivity, and border management among other issues during the meeting.
