SocialIndustrial sector getting uninterrupted power supply: Minister

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Minister of State for Water and Power Chaudhry Abid Sher Ali Thursday informed the National Assembly that industrial sector across the country was getting uninterrupted power supply round-the-clock.

“There is no electricity load-shedding for the industrial sector and it is getting the supply 24 hours a day,” he said during the question-hour.

Scheduled power load-shedding, he said, was being observed in the areas keeping in view gap between demand and supply while forced power shut down was applied where power theft and line losses were high.

At present, the minister said, gap between demand and supply of electricity in the country was 3,181 megawatts (MW), saying “the demand is around 12,434 MW per day and supply against it is 9,253.”

To a question, Abid said electricity was being provided to All Powers Distribution Companies as per their allocated quota.

Commenting about power supply situation in Balochistan, he said, the load-shedding was being observed there as per the uniformed policy.

Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, he said, was taking keen interest to improve power supply situation in the province, and the government had recently set two grid stations of 500 kilowatts.

“The total receivable in Balochistan is Rs 145 billion,” he said and added that efforts were being made to upgrade existing power transmission system in the province.
