Inquiry into shortage of petrol underway: Musadik Malik

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: As the petrol crisis has entered seventh day across Punjab on Monday, the prime minister’s spokesman Musadik Malik has said that an inquiry into shortage of petrol is underway and responsible elements would be brought to justice.

In a statement, the spokesman said that the petrol shortage in certain parts of the country has been overcome to a great extent while provision of complete petrol supply would be ensured within couple of days.

Malik said that concrete measures are being taken to overcome petrol shortage in Punjab.

Nawaz convenes meetings on petrol shortage

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has cancelled all his official engagements scheduled for Monday and convened special meetings to specifically focus on the issue of petrol shortage.

It is likely that he will take important decisions in the meetings to take the responsible officials to task and resolve the issue at the earliest.

In a statement, the prime minister categorically stated the petrol crisis will soon be resolved to provide immediate relief to the consumers.

Sharif said that all possible measures are being taken to bridge gap in supply and demand of petrol.

Earlier on Saturday, the prime minister suspended four officers including secretary petroleum Abid Saeed, additional secretary petroleum Naeem Malik, director general oil M Azam and managing director PSO Dr Amjad Janjua for the prevailing petrol crisis while talking to a TV channel, the petroleum and natural resources minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said he would resign if his negligence was proved in the crises.
