ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Minister of State for Interior Shehryar Khan Afridi has assured that a more transparent system will be in place to put any citizen’s name on the Exit Control List (ECL).
While answering to questions in the Senate Functional Committee on Human Rights meeting presided over Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar in Islamabad on Wednesday, the minister reiterated the government’s commitment to uphold rule of law.
The Committee was briefed by the Special Secretary Interior and the Director General Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on procedure adopted to place names of individuals on the ECL, restricting their freedom of movement as enshrined in article 15 of the Constitution.
The director general FIA gave a detailed briefing to the Committee on placing the names of MNAs Ali Wazir and Mohsin Dawar on Provisional National Identification List (PNIL).
The Federal Minister for Human Rights Dr Shireen Mazari expressed dissatisfaction on the procedure of putting names on PNIL.
The Chairman Functional Committee on Human Rights said in his concluding remarks that the director general FIA has failed to satisfy the Committee members who had raised serious reservations regarding the legal base of PNIL. Hence, the meeting will be reconvened after two weeks.
