ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Three days after the Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) Chief Hafiz Muhammad Saeed was detained, the Interior Ministry on Wednesday placed the JuD Chief and 37 other key activists of the organization under the Exit Control List (ECL).

Sources said that in this regard, the interior ministry today forwarded letters to all provincial governments and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).JuD activists on ECL

Earlier on Monday, under Section 11-EEE(1) of the Anti-Terrorism Act 1977, the interior minister placed Hafiz Saeed under house arrest.

While reply to a question regarding the detention of Hafiz Saeed in Rawalpindi on Tuesday, the Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asif Ghafoor said that the initiative was taken as a policy decision.

“This is a policy decision that the state took in national interest. Lots of institutions will have to do their jobs,” the director general ISPR said.

However, a few section of society questioned the move by the federal government and didn’t endorse it.

In a statement, the Chairman of United Jihad Council (UJC) Syed Salahuddin called the move of detaining Hafiz Saeed “painful and cowardly”, and urged the government to reverse its order.

Syed Salahuddin said that the move not only sent “a negative and disappointing message” to the people living in Indian Occupied Kashmir but it also showed “Pakistan’s weak role in the ongoing freedom struggle” of Kashmiris.
