BEIJING, China: The Republic of China has acknowledged Pakistan’s enormous efforts to combat terrorism and bring lasting peace in neighbouring Afghanistan though the Afghan reconciliation process.
“Pakistan has made enormous efforts to combat terrorism and support the Afghan reconciliation process,” China’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hong Le said in a statement.
The spokesman said that the international community should fully recognize that and respect Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Talking about the Afghan reconciliation process, the spokesman said that Quadrilateral Coordination Group (QCG) was formed to create enabling conditions for the process and all relevant parties should pull together for that goal.
The remarks by China’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson came when asked to comment on Pakistan’s statement about recent US drone strike.
Earlier on June 7, a joint session of the Pakistani civil and military leaders in Rawalpindi issued a statement, denouncing the US drone strike in Balochistan on May 21 as a violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty. The statement said that the strike was detrimental to the mutual trust between Pakistan and the United States as well as efforts by the QCG to push forward the Afghan reconciliation process.
The drone strike left Afghan Taliban Chief Mullah Akhtar Mansour dead along with his driver which eventually, according to Pakistan, had added to the complexity and undermined the Afghan peace process.
