ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The International Day for Disaster Reduction is being observed on Monday (October 13) to raise awareness about significance of reducing risks of disasters around the globe.
The theme for the day this year is “Resilience is for Life,” which focuses on fulfilling the needs of older people and disasters risk reduction.
In his message on the day, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif stressed the need for highlighting the potential of older persons to make positive contributions during times of crises.
The UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon in his message said that the day is an opportunity to recognize the role of older men and women in fostering resilience.
