In a statement, the Foreign Office Spokesman Qazi Khalilullah confirmed the visit and said that Zarif’s visit aims at reviewing bilateral relations between Pakistan and Iran.

“The purpose of the visit is to review bilateral ties between the two countries in the context of Iran’s recent nuclear deal,” the spokesman said.

During his visit, the Iranian foreign minister is expected to hold talks with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his Advisor on Foreign Affairs and National Security Sartaj Aziz in Islamabad.

It will be the first visit by an Iranian high level official to Pakistan since the world major powers and the Islamic Republic of Iran reached the historic nuclear deal last month under which Tehran will be granted sanctions relief in exchange for curbs on its nuclear program.

“We have welcomed nuclear agreement between Iran and P5+1. It would have positive impact on the gas pipeline project from Iran and offer opportunities for further enhancing economic cooperation with Iran,” Qazi Khalilullah said at his weekly media briefing in Islamabad on July 16.
