BAGHDAD: The Al-Qaeda-linked Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) has reportedly kidnapped approximately 100 foreigners including Pakistani and Indian in northern Iraq.
Other countries whose nationals have been kidnapped by the Sunni militants include Turkey, Nepal and Turkmenistan.
The Indian external affairs ministry confirmed on Wednesday that 40 Indian citizens working for a Turkish construction company have been kidnapped in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul.
However, the number of Pakistanis kidnapped in Iraq is not yet known.
Earlier on June 11, the militants from the ISIL stormed the Turkish consulate in Mosul, and took hostages 49 persons including the consul general, staff members, special operations teams and three children.
