ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday suspended the sentence awarded to the former Prime Minister and Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan in the Toshakhana Case, and ordered to release him bail.

The verdict – reserved on Monday after arguments in the proceedings were concluded – was announced by the two-member Division Bench comprising the Chief Justice IHC Aamer Farooq and Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri.

The IHC accepted Imran Khan’s request for suspension of his sentence in the Toshakhana Case, and directed the Attock Jail Officials to release him for a surety bond of Rs 100,000.

Meanwhile, Imran Khan’s legal team left for Attock after receiving a written copy of the Court’s order to work on his bail from the jail.

On August 05, 2023, the Additional District and Sessions Judge Hamayun Dilawar sentenced Imran Khan to three-year in jail under Section 174 of the Election Act 2017 and disqualified him for five years in the Toshakhana Case.

Later, he was arrested from his Zaman Park residence in Lahore and taken to the District Jail Attock.

Fearing that the former prime minister might be arrested in another case as he has been facing nearly 200 cases, Imran Khan’s lawyers earlier in the day moved to the Islamabad High Court for a protective bail against his arrest in any other case but that petition has yet to be taken up by the IHC.
