ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Minister of State for Interior Shehryar Khan Afridi has informed the Senate that Islamabad Police does not have the equipment for tracing the cell phone calls in order to help them in quick investigation of terrorism-related cases and other crimes.

In a written reply submitted in the Upper House in response to a question raised by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Senator Chaudhary Tanvir Khan, the state minister said that the Ministry of Defense has not issued a no-objection certificate (NOC) to Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police for acquiring GSM locator.

Islamabad police seeking help from ISI & IB to trace phone calls

Shehryar Afridi said that the ICT Police is seeking help or assistance from Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Intelligence Bureau (IB) to trace the cell phone calls during investigation of heinous crimes as well as terrorism.

The state minister for interior further told that the SP Investigation has been appointed as focal person under the direct supervision of DIG (Operations), who is in constant contact with the quarters concerned of various cellular companies and upon his request through email, the requisite information is being collected by him. He said that the cases are being concluded in the light of the information received from the cellular companies.

In reply to another question, Shehryar Afridi told that the Ministry of Interior has not so far received any request from any department for extradition of former Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz to produce him in the Courts to face cases.
