ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: It’s been a quite some now since residents of Islamabad have been surrounded by an ‘unusual’ security situation as from consistently suspension of cellular services to issuing security alert by the concerned authorities making the citizens feel totally comfortable and unsecure.
Today again, according to media reports, security threat has been issued in the Federal Capital, cautioning that terrorists in the garb of police and commandos may target any site in the city.
In such a situation, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Sajid Kiyani has ordered police personnel to check every person in uniform on every entry of the Capital. The SSP Operations has also ordered to check the office cards of the personnel who are in squad of VVIPs.
It is pertinent to mention here that since last three weeks, cellphone services are being temporarily suspended in parts of the Federal Capital during Friday prayers.
The cellphone services are supposed to be closed in areas adjacent to Lal Masjid as per Pakistan Telecommunication Authority’s (PTA) directives due to security reasons; however, people living in other parts of Islamabad also meet the same fate.
It is believed that cellular services are shut to stop the Lal Majid Cleric Maulana Abdul Aziz to deliver his Friday sermon via phone. Thus, suspension of mobile services owing to Lal Masjid and plus security alerts issued in recent past are further developing sense of insecurity among people.
