ISLAMABAD: Religious scholars on Thursday issued an unanimous decree that casting votes in the upcoming elections is a ‘religious duty’ and that Islam does not prohibits women to cast votes.
Chairman Pakistan Ulema Council Hafiz Tahir Ashrafi, in consultation with other Islamic scholars, issued a decree highlighting the importance of voting.
According to the decree, politics is not forbidden in Islam and that casting vote is a religious duty. It said that refraining from voting is an un-Islamic act.
Decree says that under the Shariah women can also vast their votes and that Islam does not prohibits women from voting.
