ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan Army on Thursday took exception to ‘objectionable remarks’ having been made by the political leadership against the Peshawar Corps Commander Lt General Faiz Hameed, and termed their ‘imprudent comments’ very inappropriate.

On Wednesday, replying to a question in a Press Conference in Karachi about the former ISI Chief and incumbent Peshawar Corps Commander Lt General Faiz Hameed, the Co-Chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Asif Ali Zardari had remarked that “The helpless Faiz Hameed has been sidelined.”

Prior to that on May 6, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz while addressing a rally in Fateh Jang had also criticized Lt General Faiz Hameed.

In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that Peshawar Corps is an illustrious formation of Pakistan Army spearheading national war against terrorism for over two decades.

The ISPR said that one of the most competent and professional officers is entrusted with the responsibility to lead this prestigious formation.

It said that imprudent comments made by important senior politicians recently about Corps Commander Peshawar are very inappropriate.

“Such statements undermine the honour and morale of institution and its leadership,” it said.

The ISPR said that it is expected that the senior political leadership of the Country refrains from passing objectionable remarks against the institution whose brave officers and men are constantly putting their lives on the line to guard the integrity and sovereignty of Pakistan.
