ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The members of Japanese Diet Task Force on Global Polio Eradication on Wednesday visited here and exchanged views with Minister of State for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination.    

During the meeting, Secretary General of the Diet Task Force, Kenzo Fujisue emphasized the Pakistan’s role in the world wide effort for polio eradication and appreciated the performance of the Pakistan government so far, which contributed greatly to the decrease of polio cases compared to last year.

Both sides agreed upon the necessity of strengthening interaction between Japan and Pakistan for making Pakistan a “polio-free” country, said a press release issued here.

Meanwhile, the members of Japanese Diet Task Force on Global Polio Eradication including Member of the House of Councilors with Ms. Toshiko Abe, Member of the House of Representatives and Shuhei Kishimoto, Member of the House of Representatives also exchanged views with Ayesha Raza Farooq, Prime Minister’s Focal Person on Polio Eradication, and other development partners.

They observed the polio eradication campaign on the ground in order to see Pakistan’s current effort on Polio eradication and thereby consider the role expected of Japan in future.

During the meeting, Ayesha expressed her gratitude to Japan’s continuous support for polio eradication in Pakistan.

Kenzo Fujisue, head of delegation, expressed his hope that Pakistan will continue its efforts in ensuring that local governments work together under the leadership of the Federal government.

Japanese delegation had a meeting with development partners such as Bill and Melinda Gate Foundation, UNICEF, WHO, Rotary International at the National Emergency Operation Center to exchange views on current situation and recent challenges faced by Polio eradication program in Pakistan.

After the meeting, they observed the Supplementary Immunization Activities (SIA’s) in Islamabad such as polio vaccination activities in the local hospitals, the transit point (bus stop), the local community and Lady Health Worker’s House.

Diet Task Force is a bipartisan organization, and members from diverse political parties in Japan are united in working together for the purpose of eradicating polio for the sake of children all over the world.
