PoliticsJIT to probe offshore companies of Imran, Tareen: Daniyal

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PM-N) Member of the National Assembly Daniyal Aziz Wednesday said a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) should be formed for investigation into the offshore companies of Imran Khan and Jehangir Tareen.

Talking to media men, he claimed that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan had numerous offshore companies in various countries. He along with all others owning offshore companies should be held accountable, he added.

He said Imran Khan owned assets abroad, which were not in his name. If a person’s name did not appear in the database of Panamanian firm Mossack Fonseca, then it did not mean that he could not be held accountable for the offshore companies owned by him, he added.

Imran Khan failed to provide details of his offshore companies, he said.

“We want investigations of Imran Khan’s accounts starting from the year 1982.”

He said the name of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif did not even appear in the Panama Papers.

Daniyal alleged that both Imran Khan and Jehangir Tareen had committed financial irregularities amounting to billions of rupees.

He said today in the Supreme Court, the lawyer of Jehangir Tareen took the stance that owning offshore companies and exchanging gifts with children was not illegal.

Jehangir Tareen, he said, was owner of an offshore company. However, his lawyer did not know the name of the offshore company, he added.

The PML-N leader said Jehangir Tareen and his family members including his wife, sons and daughter, had exchanged gifts of more than Rs 1 billion among themselves.

Jehangir Tareen did insider trading in the name of his gardener and cook, who earned profits of millions of rupees in illegal stock trading, he added.

Daniyal said Nawaz Sharif came on roads for the restoration of present judiciary so remarks like ‘Godfather’ and referring the government as a ‘Sicilian mafia’ were not fair.

“Does Sicilian mafia make an effort to restore judiciary by putting life in danger?”

He said his party wanted that the cases in the courts should be resolved according to the Constitution.
