ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The federal government and the opposition have named the former Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice (retd) Nasir-ul-Mulk as the Caretaker Prime Minister.
“We have arrived at a consensus for the Caretaker Prime Minister, Justice (Retired) Nasir-ul-Mulk,” the Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah revealed in a Press Conference held in Islamabad along with Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and the Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.
Khursheed Shah said that they have arrived at a consensus decision after consulting all opposition parties. He said that it is a milestone of our democratic history.
“We pray that Justice (retd) Nasir-ul-Mulk will be able to conduct free, fair and impartial elections in Pakistan on July 25th,” Khursheed Shah said.
The prime minister said that we have agreed on a name of the Caretaker Prime Minister.
“I held several meetings with Khursheed Shah on the issue. We selected a person, whose past is clear,” the prime minister said. “Today is the important day for our future democratic journey.”

PTI backs Justice (retd) Nasir-ul-Mulk as Caretaker PM
In a statement, the Chairman Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan congratulated Justice (retd) Nasir-ul-Mulk on his appointment as the Caretaker Prime Minister while the Vice Chairman PTI Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that Justice (retd) Nasir-ul-Mulk is a respectable candidate for the Caretaker premiership.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that PTI has no reservation over Justice (retd) Nasir-ul-Mulk’s appointment for the Post.
Earlier in the morning, the prime minister and the opposition leader had another round of consultations for appointment of a Caretaker Prime Minister, and after which, Khursheed Shah told media that the deadlock over the issue had ended.
Khursheed Shah said that they would prove that the Parliament was Supreme, and all decisions must be made in the legislature.
Born on August 17, 1950 in Swat, Justice (retd) Nasir-ul-Mulk remained as the 22nd Chief Justice of Pakistan from July 6, 2014 to August 16, 2015. He also remained as the acting Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) from November 30, 2013 to July 6, 2014.
Prior to be elevated as the Senior Justice in 2005, Nasir-ul-Mulk tenured as the Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court (PHC) in 2004.
